THIS WEEK: Wednesday we will welcome Coco back from holiday at the 3 Sisters. Thursday is at Skyline. And Friday February 23rd we will not be at the Big Bamboo. In honor of Anatol, who was sorry he could not get through Hangzhou traffic to get to Shanghai last week by the way, we will be having a special event – ANATOL’S PRO AM TRASH TALKING AND SHOOTERS EVENTS AT HARLEYS.

The Doubles event starts at 9 sharp. If delayed send Fred an sms. If you want me to bring your t shirt let me know ahead of time that you will be attending.

Anyone ranked 3 or less is an Am. Anyone 4 or above is a Pro. Arrange your partner ahead of time or just show up and we will find one for you. If because of numbers we are forced to put two Ams together, they will receive an extra 2 points taken off their team ranking. If we are forced to put two Pros together they will add an extra 2 points to their team ranking.Trash talking while playing is encouraged.

The format is: Win a game, have a shooter. Lose a game, walk on your hands and knees under the table. That is not per match, that is per game. Please bring your cameras. Winners side 2/3 games to 5 plus handicap. Losers side one game race to 7 plus handicap. Wearing any of your Shanghai Foosball t shirts is encouraged. You might be getting dirty so dress appropriately.

Note: There will be an extra entry fee to cover the cost of all the shooters. Your choice of either Jagershots or Kamikazees. We are negotiating the price now. Please no smoking right beside the table. A little ways away is ok. Asthmatics like me say thank you!

No problem if your partner does not drink. You can do both shooters! Ha ha…Both don’t drink? No problem. Win or lose they are walking under the table after each game.

For this event we will be having TWO tables!

Why is it called ANATOLS event? Because he is the entertainment. In addition to the event, every thirty minutes Anatol chooses someone to buy 2 shooters. One for Anatol. One for the friend. Yes, it could get messy…
Still want Anatol for a partner? Ha ha…Don’t worry Aga. We will cut him off by some point….

Following this event, we will be having a Two Ball Rollerball Single Elimination Event (no pins). One game race to 7, no handicaps with the same teams. Again – win and a shooter, lose and go under the table. If you were too late to play in the first event no problem, just join this event. I am guessing 11 or 12 start time. We will start once we only need one table to finish the first event.

Welcome back to Lea and safe travels to anyone like myself leaving Shanghai for Chinese New Year. I will leave Saturday for a week but hoping to get a little rust off my foosball game before then. Last week, I had fun at Three Sisters on Wednesday, Skyline on Thursday, and Big Bamboo on Friday. I will leave it up to Thorsten, Stefano and company to decide where we play this week but if I don’t hear back I will look to repeat the same schedule this week. Please let me know if interested in meeting up or if you want any practice tips, etc. Last week was extra special since Luke visited us and we even had an extra Saturday night of foosball with him. I don’t know if my lungs can take any more of The Beaver’s smoke though. Ha ha…

Long time fooser Jason who is on hiatus due to married life is selling his table. It is an earlier generation Fireball table with Tornado men. Super fast and in great condition. Only 2,500 RMB!! If you need help in delivery, Bing and I can help you for 500 RMB including dolly and delivery van. You can also rent a taxi/truck on your own for a cheaper solution. Let me know if interested and if you want Jason’s contact info. Maybe a bar that you know of that cannot afford a new table might be interested?

This Friday wherever we are, I am hoping to meet with this years organizing committee to discuss dates, locations and details about the 2012 two major foosball tournaments in Shanghai. Likely May and October holiday weekends. If you want to be involved or have a suggestion now is the time to let us know.

Rogers bar on Hongmei Lu is getting redone and will soon re-open as ‘City Bull’. They have a Fireball table and some good players apparently so let me know if you want to join me some night in going for a little challenge match there. They have a second location just opened on Nanjing Lu walking street. 300 Nanjing Lu near Henan Lu. Beautiful new Apple Store building 2nd floor mall location. We just delivered a new Fireball table to them and they are looking to have their own foosball night (thinking Wednesday). Talk to Tommy if interested 135 2409 9445.

Hiya everybody,

Foosball season is on again.

Fred is back and as special surprise last week Luke showed up as well.

It took him some time to get used to the fireball table again…but after that..thank you LUKE!!!

The week started strong on wedneday in the 3 sisters with Fred and Perry showing up

and throwing some challenges around.

We played some doubles but to be fair mixes everybody together with a girl from the bar

Nice night…hope to do it again this week.

Great time thursday at skyline…more than 10 people showed up

great games, funny competition…too bad i had to leave early.

Foos last weekend at the bamboo:
some people available and finally…after 4 weeks we had a single and double tournament again.

It was great fun with Luke showing us some of his “still a little bit rusty” skills.

Fred is still recovering, so not on his best but dangerous as ever.

Hi,

I had a great time in Africa but am back in China now. Let me know if you want to come over for photo night. My arm is getting better but not as fast as I had hoped. More therapy and we will see what happens. I will be away for CNY Jan 21-29. Wishing you a nice holiday too. I played some great players and very nice guys in South Africa. Their top player will likely come to visit us in June this year.

Outstanding job to all who have been keeping Shanghai foosball going while I was away and keep up the good work. Thorsten, Stefano, Daniel, Johan, Jojo and others will keep the local scene growing week to week but I thought I would periodically give you some updates on world foosball and on our own upcoming major events. By the way, the weekly organizers are always looking for more volunteers and of course for you to come out to play and to invite new players as well.

WORLD FOOSBALL

The International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) World Cup and World Championships just took place. The Belgium and Germany teams claimed top honors on the weekend at the World Cup of Table Soccer.

These events saw numerous intense matches in the most spectacular table soccer event of the year with live broadcast on Eurosport TV. Our friends Dennis Jiang and Tony Spredeman were there. More info at www.table-soccer.org

Fireball replaced Tornado and Leonhart replaced Tecball to join Bonzini, Garlando and Roberto Sport as the five official tables. Asia was represented by Iran, Japan and India. All the Asian teams did well and Iran played particularly well and were leading eventual gold medal winning Team Belgium 4-0 before the Belgians stormed back to win the next five straight and to win the match 5-4. My friends on Team Canada won division 2 so are now promoted to division 1 for next year where things will be much tougher.

I was considering playing for the senior team for Canada but between my injury and my own travel plans I decided to pass for this year.

SHANGHAI MAJOR FOOSBALL EVENTS

We already have 3 sponsors but we need 4 more so please let us know if you would like to participate or know someone or some company that might be interested. The Shanghai Open and Shanghai International Challenge tentatively planned for May and October respectively this year. Time to get playing and practicing!

New location – Eden Club on Hongmei Lu. I will be out tonight, tomorrow and Friday if my arm holds out. I hope to see you soon. Yes, I have put on weight while on holiday. Thanks in advance for mentioning it though. The workouts and better eating starts soon. Ok, maybe AFTER Chinese New Year. Ha ha…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It’s time to get our community going again….

Last weekend it foosball was still slow in shanghai.

We had some great games thursday at skyline

and 3 available doubles friday at the bamboo.

Nothing too fancy but at least we didn’t stop completely.

But christmas holidays are finally over now.

Fred is back in town….

So i expect some more persons in our locations this week….

- Wednesdays 3 sisters….not organized event yet, but definitely worth checking out. There are always some players there (around 9pm)

- Thursday night Skyline…..training day! Best day for newcomers or persons who like to improve their game

- Friday at the Bamboo JingAn….Tournament day! singles starting 8pm sharp…doubles afterwards!

And since we have a new year now…..

I checked our ranking table and i believe some congratulations are in order…

We have to adapt some skill levels after big improvements over the past year!

Following persons had an astonishing run in 2011:

Johan finished 1st in singles and 2nd in doubles

Jojo finished 7th in singles and 3rd in doubles

Anni finished 3rd in singles and 5th in doubles

Therefore for 2012 we will:

Johan Upgrade to Skill Level 4

Jojo Upgrade to Skill Level 3

Anni Upgrade to Skill Level 3

Good job you 3!!!!

I hope even with the increased skill level you will be as successful this year!!!

Hiya everybody,

foosball is still slow during christmas days but nevertheless we had some great fun.

Friday in the bamboo we didn’t have a tournament going but

with 6 persons available we played some hours just for fun (and of course implemented in the ELO ranking)

Tuesday night Anatol and Sean have been in town.

Anatol normally stays in hangzhou and some of you might remember Sean from one of our tournaments this year.

He is living in Lanzhou.

Both can be considered at master level (Don’t forget, Anatol won open singles and doubles in october’s shanghai open)

Unfortunately it was too close to christmas and too short notice to get a lot of people coming.

But:

Johan and me tried to challenge them and we had an amazing night at the beaver.

Of course most of the games we got beaten but some have been really close….and we even won one match!

Thanks to Anatol and Sean for coming, the fun, and the lessons in how foosball should be played.

Looking forward to see you guys soon again!!!!

(one after friday and one after tuesday)

Since nearly nobody is here this week i’m not sure if any events might happen.

Nevertheless i will be in the bamboo on friday…hopefully some persons show up just for enjoying the game and maybe

some training…we’ll see.

Special Foos News – Dalian

Hiya everybody,

no news from my site regarding shanghai foosball since i have been in dalian last weekend…

but:

Here some information how the weekend went:

Since it’s nearly christmas time shanghai’s foosball community slowed down quite a bit these past weeks.

Nevertheless after establishing a friendship with dalian during the past 2 shanghai open tournaments, some

of our enthusiasts (Johan, Chris, Thorsten) decided to visit Dalian for a foosball challenge.

Last weekend friday to sunday was the confirmed date.

After a short flight and warm welcome by most of Dalians players (Dinner together with Dalians best, the foosball promoter Dennis and the CTSF president)

we directly moved to the favorite training spot (Bar 147).

Felix organized a singles tournament with 24 persons attending. Amazing 8 days before christmas. Thank you very much Dennis.

Although fun was definitely the main topic everybody played hard and fought for goals.

Unluckily none came under the first three, this was completely in Dalian hands (Thomas, Mike, Zhang Lei)

After the tournament it was necessary to remove some of the stress therefore the local bar scene had to be found.

Some additional great hours in the club Alice before falling tired, slightly dizzy and definitely happy with the day into bed….

The next day start seemed to be hard for some so the meeting time was changed from the original 2pm to 3pm at the same spot

But than for starters a double (DYP) and before changing locations a one-ball tournament woke everybody up quickly.

Johan and Thorsten indepentely with their partners somehow managed to play at least in the semi-finals looser streak but had been beaten.

(who won?….Felix/Jacky or Zhang Lei/Lydia, sorry but not sure)

A small but important fact for shanghai…even only being a fun event, Thorsten could only be beaten by Mike in the one-ball final.

A position under the final 3 at last…

For dinner and more foosball fun the location was changed to Hopscotch, a nice trendy bar @ xinghai park.

Good music, cheap drinks….great atmosphere!

Definitely a bar badly needed in shanghai as well.

No tournament feeling anymore but lots of doubles competition…and we went on for hours….

Finally they had to throw us out (3.30am)

Sunday we went to Robert’s place (wow!!!! what a view)

for final 90min of doubles and some more tips to adjust our games.

After finishing up there Robert drove us around some nice places in Dalian (incl. some km on Binhai road….wow wow wow, even better view!)

and right in time to the airport to get our plane!

Many thanks to Dalian foosball team!

Especially Felix who helped organizing everything!

Felix had all tournament games under control any time

Robert and Mike tried to explain to us shanghai guys how to play foosball

Thomas was quite busy but still managed to show up most of the time and give us a good impression of dalian nightlife

Zhang Lei, Lydia, Jacky and many others showed us their improved skills!!

Guys we definitely need to train and improve for our next tournament!!!!

It was a fantastic experience which we will try to develop next year by visiting each others city twice.

Hiya everybody,

at first i should apologize for not sending out any information last week.

I was simply too busy…

It seems foosball slowed down with christmas shortly coming up.

2 weeks ago we have been only able to play singles since not enough persons showed up for doubles.

But maybe one reason was that we had to move to the beaver since the bamboo had an event going on.

Although later in the evening we had some nice fights with Alex and Kenny arriving late. Anyway guys: thanks for showing up!

Foos last weekend at the bamboo:

Yes…less people than the week before.
Great fun with Alex, Johan, Kenny, Tiger, Anny and me….but only 6 persons.
I hope it will get better soon, but might be difficult 3 weeks before christmas.
This weekend there is another event at the bamboo so i suggest to move to the beaver for the upcoming friday.

I’ll not be available the next 2 weekends.
Stefano has his last weekend in shanghai.
And….maybe a special guest from hangzhou will show up.
Guys…you have to play this guy. He is one of the best i ever played against.
So i do hope some of you might still show up this weekend….maybe i should fly back just for the friday….who knows

Hiya everybody,

Fred’s good-bye tour was still ongoing last week.

Therefore we had nearly every day some fun.

All started wednesday in the 3 sisters where some of us tried to beat Alex and Fred….but somehow it seemed to be too difficult.
But nevertheless a great evening….okay okay the next morning wasn’t easy for everybody…but definitely worth it!

Thursday the skyline was crowded as well.

It seems everybody wanted to catch one last game with Fred…

Guys, he will come back in february…no need for tears now (and remember…he can’t play for more than 2 months, so maybe the tears will be in some other face than….hihihihi)

But of course the big event was:

Great fun…
1 new person for joined for singles…Hey Rocky, you did good!!!
and 6 for doubles…wow!! Although i don’t remember all names since they moved away quickly

As to the results….
as usual during the last weeks Johan demolished his opponents over and over again…but this time he won the final as well

Fred couldn’t resist to win the doubles again….it seems it doesn’t matter who he’s playing with, since last week he won as well
Therefore: Have a nice holiday Fred!!!!

Sideline business: Some guys from austria tried the shanghai foosball quality and where destroyed by perry and fred….thanks guys!

For those who haven’t been too tired of foosball…..
Saturday the beaver was location again to some hardcore foosin’ group….and i hear fred won again….
SO either he did get a lot of good-bye presents (although i doubt it) or he really showed us one last time for the next months his true capabilities…who knows.
Anyway we will miss YOU!!!
